Sam Score (@samanthascore) is a San Diego–based content creator and founder of Bodhe, a connective coworking space in La Jolla. She recently traveled to the Big Island with her best girlfriend for a wedding, turning the trip into the ultimate girls’ getaway — the perfect chance to unwind, recharge, and spend meaningful time together.
They started the day at the Hilo Farmers Market, wandering through stalls brimming with fresh local produce. Sam grabbed a coconut straight from the vendor — perfectly refreshing and just the right way to kick off a day of island adventures.
Next, they headed to Punaluʻu Black Sand Beach, where volcanic sands meet turquoise waves and sea turtles often rest along the shore, the perfect spot to take it all in. From there, a short hike through the lush rainforest led them to Akaka Falls, where 400 feet of water tumbled into a misty pool, surrounded by dense greenery that made the island’s beauty feel immediate and alive.
As the day drew to a close, they watched the Sunset from the backyard of their incredible ocean-front Airbnb, the perfect way to end a day of adventures. The trip struck the perfect balance — full of beautiful sights and memorable moments. It was the ideal backdrop for a girls’ getaway, filled with laughter, adventure, and shared memories (and tans) that will last long after the trip ended.
